How are we different from other tax prep companies?
Our innovative, two-phase approach to tax relief has helped us become America’s fastest-growing tax relief company. You cannot claim this status without breaking industry norms. While many tax prep companies prioritize getting their clients into IRS repayment agreements, we prioritize getting our clients the best resolution possible. Anyone can call the IRS and put themselves on a repayment plan. Nevertheless, that is just what so many of our competitors do, and frankly, it’s unscrupulous. We, however, provide our clients with a team of certified tax experts, case managers, and resolution officers with the sole purpose of settling their tax debt. At TaxWave, we go the extra mile every time – we do not take the easy solution.
Do we work with businesses or just individuals?
Both! We specialize in both personal and business tax debts.
Are we licensed?
Yes. Our tax attorneys and CPAs are licensed and approved by the state of California to carry out their primary duties. See our full accreditation here. Learn more about your specific tax-related issue, how to move forward, and how TaxWave can help.

Does the money I give you go to the IRS

How much will I end up paying?
The cost of your resolution is determined on a case-by-case basis, with the main contributing factors being your tax liability situation as well as the program that we enroll you into. While your Settlement Officer will quote you an estimated cost of your resolution during the initial consultation, the final cost will be determined based on the findings from our discovery analysis. Due to this, the fee that you pay for your discovery analysis will be attributed to your total resolution fee. To receive a custom price estimate for your resolution, please call (888) 421-9283 .
What if I'm already paying the IRS?
Tax Wave frequently takes on clients who already have an installment agreement / payment plan set up with the IRS. If you have an installment agreement with the state, you must maintain timely payments. If your installment agreement is with the IRS, it is your choice to continue making that payment. Should you choose to discontinue your payments with the IRS, please forward any notices from the IRS to your case manager immediately. Often, the IRS will prompt taxpayers into an installment agreement or monthly payment plan when the taxpayer is actually qualified for a better resolution. When we take you on as a client, we will work to either significantly reduce your monthly payments or settle your tax debt for a fraction of your original tax liability.
Can the state intercept my federal refund and vice versa?
Yes. The state and federal governments participate in offset programs. If a debt is owed to one or the other they can claim certain refunds.
What documents do you need to move the process along?
The burden to prove your financial hardship to the IRS falls on us, but we need to provide the Federal/State government with updated financial documents including but limited to: Copy of the three (3) most recent pay stubs Proof of any additional income you received on a monthly basis Copy of the three (3) most recent bank statements Copy of your last tax return Proof of all household expenses over the past three (3) months Proof of current state or federal tax liability and payment plan (if applicable) Most recent mortgage statements Proof of one (1) month’s non-business transportation expenses Proof of payment for health insurance and out-of-pocket medical expenses *Additional materials may be needed. Please confirm with your case manager.

How long does it take?
Due to the individual nature of IRS resolutions, each TaxWave case will be provided with a customized timeline. An IRS resolution typically takes 3 to 8 months but is dependent on consistent and open communication with your case manager. Please note that due to the current pandemic, the IRS has been severely backlogged in some of its resolution processing. You may notice a delay achieving your resolution.
What if I don't know how much I owe?
We can conduct our initial phone consultation as long as you have a rough estimate of how much you owe. However, our minimum requirement is that our clients owe at least $5,000 in back taxes or have unfiled back taxes. If you have neither, it is likely that our services would cost you more money than you would end up saving. We recommend that you get a quote from the IRS to determine a more accurate estimate of how much you owe in back taxes and liabilities. You can do this by contacting your local IRS office.
Can't I just call the IRS?
Yes, the IRS accepts phone calls from the general public, however the average wait-time to speak with a IRS representative is about 2 hours per call. If you would like to contact the IRS directly, it is recommended that you visit your local IRS office or send a letter via US mail. As a TaxWave employee, our attorneys and case managers have direct access to IRS representatives. If you are a TaxWave client, please allow your case manager to handle all IRS communication on your behalf to limit unnecessary wait times.

What if I was married when I owed and now I'm not?

Does the IRS call me?
No. Collection agents do not make phone calls. Correspondence is sent via US mail or made in person. If you receive a call or SMS text message from someone claiming to be the IRS, it may be a scam message. With our Power of Attorney in place, the IRS should no longer be contacting you. If you do receive a letter from the IRS, send it to your case manager as soon as possible and we’ll take care of the rest. If you suspect that you have received a fraudulent call or letter, you can find more information on the IRS website.
Can I do this myself?
The IRS does not require that you hire professional representation to achieve a tax resolution. However, if you owe more than $5,000 and/or are facing aggressive collection activities such as a wage garnishment, tax lien, or bank levy, it is strongly advised to seek professional help.
What if I get in trouble with the IRS again?
After your resolution, you can choose to enroll in our TaxWave program. This will keep you protected against IRS audits, garnishments, liens and levies, and it will also discount all tax resolution fees if you end up needing them in the future. We’ll file your taxes every year your membership is active. This will ensure that your taxes are filed properly and on time, preventing future audits.
